HARRISBURG (July 3) – The state House of Representatives passed a water and sewer infrastructure measure Thursday by a 184-18 vote.

The bill, Senate Bill 1341, was sponsored by Sen. Ray Musto, D-Luzerne. If passed, it would institute a voter referendum to borrow $400 million for water and sewer repair.

The bill returns to the Senate with one amendment. Portions of House Rules 21 and 24 needed to be suspended for the bill to be voted on, since fewer than 24 hours had elapsed since the amendment was added.

HARRISBURG (July 3) – A bill changing the certification process for certified public accountants [CPAs] passed both chambers Thursday.

The bill, Senate Bill 838, brings the state’s CPA law into compliance with most other states’ as well as the federal Uniform Accountancy Act, lawmakers said.

If enacted, the bill would allow CPAs to practice in other states while also allowing CPAs from outside Pennsylvania to practice here without obtaining a new certification.
