Capitolwire: State police commissioner resigns for job with NFL

HARRISBURG (July 8 ) – State Police Commissioner Jeffrey Miller announced his resignation Tuesday, saying he had accepted a new position as an executive at the National Football League.

“This is a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Miller, who will be director of strategic security programs, a new position in the NFL’s security department. “I’m a big sports fan and I love NFL football.”

Capitolwire: Businesses criticize lack of tax cuts in budget; lawmakers respond

HARRISBURG (July 8 ) – Just one business day after it was signed, a large coalition of corporations issued an indictment of the state’s budget Monday, saying it “ignored” business interests and contains “perverse” disincentives for growth.

“This is a great source of frustration for us in the business community that we were left empty handed,” said David Taylor, executive director of the Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association, one of the leaders among the 120 companies in the coalition, known as CompetePA. “What are the priorities of (Gov. Ed) Rendell and the General Assembly when corporate citizens and business advocates are totally ignored?”
