HARRISBURG (July 10) – Agricultural and environmental organizations are expressing mixed reactions to the state’s proposed $1.2 billion in water and sewer initiatives signed into law last Friday.

John Brosius, deputy director of the Pennsylvania Municipal Authorities Association, said: “The estimate for [the] water and sewer infrastructure need in Pennsylvania is $20 billion, so we’re talking the infusion of $1.2 billion into a $20 billion problem,” he said. “But I think this is a very good beginning to help recognize and fund some of those infrastructure projects.”

Brosius and others say the measures contain good programs, but constitute only a first step in improving the state’s environmental infrastructure.
